Tighten your strings!
I'm nearly certain that there are many people in my immediate circle that may wish that I would suffer a sudden injury or fall ill before this weekend's tournament. Ha! What can I say? When the big guy was passing out good looks and a smoking hot serve, he must have been looking my way! Ouch! That's right, buds. Mark down the date and time. Saturday, June 9th, at La Jolla Health and Tennis Club will prove to be yet another feather in my handsome cap. Hope everyone will join Sally and I for a celebratory cocktail at the post-tournament soiree.

Saint Paddy Paddle Tennis
Sally and I took the gang from the club up to Venice, California for our annual Paddle Tennis challenge! I don't know when the last time any of you have been to Venice but I have to say.. it never changes. Where do those people come from? And some have been there forever. The man on skates that plays the guitar and wears the white outfit has been there for nearly twenty years. I am not kidding. I can remember that guy from a day trip we took with the kids all those many years ago. Anyhoo, great day with a great bunch of people. Thanks and cheers go out to Tillie and Bob. You guys always make us feel right at home!

What happens when you and four of your best buddies decide to put together a fantastic surprise for Valentine's Day? One of the wives finds out and tells the others. End of surprise. But that didn't stop our Valentines from being an all around blast of an evening! Dinner and dancing! Just us guys showing off our hearts. All my love to Sally!

Happy Holidays, Isaac Gilman!
(Christmas came early in Bev Hills)
As many of you know, my Sunday morning doubles partner, Isaac Gilman, was recently honored by the board of the Wyman Foundation for his advances in genetic something-something. BIG WINK! I know Isaac is a brilliant scientist but, to be honest, his achievements at the net are the key to him being at the top of my buddy list! Last Saturday morning, Isaac and I took on Bev Hills' terrible twosome - Jim Goody & Peter Flood. To say that we won would not and could not embrace the defeat that we delivered. Best of three sets? 6-2 6-1 (third set just not needed) Nuf said. I toast to you, Isaac! You are a good man and, more importantly, a great tennis partner.

I will there.
Some of the gang from La Jolla Health and Tennis Club will be meeting me for the Turkey Trot this year. After my cardiologist suggested I lose a few (20) pounds, Sally and I decided to commit ourselves to running this race. Of course Sally, being the incredible woman that she is, turned our little race into a fundraiser. If you are not cooking on Thanksgiving morning, we expect to see you. Please notice that Sally's hand will be fully extended. We're raising money for Meals on Wheels. Let's pitch in and do some good on a day when we get to say "thanks for plenty".

Grass Tennis is King! ...Or Queen?
Most of you are out for tricks and treats today and tonight. Not Ted. My wonderful wife, Sally, greeted me at the door only moments ago with a pumpkin jack-o-lantern. I laughed thinking she had created some kind of trick for today's wicked holiday. I opened the jack-o-lantern and found an envelope. I opened the envelope and found two plane tickets for London departing next June 20th. Think June. Think Wimbledon. Sally's taking me to see tennis on the green grass of royalty. This will be quite a treat. I'm hoping to get to play a match or two as well! Best Halloween ever! I love my wife!

Two Weeks
I'm typing today with only my index finger. If anyone was around the club yesterday you may have witnessed what is now being called "Teddy's last spin". As many of you know I will do anything to win a game of tennis. I have been known to risk life and or limb. Yesterday. Split sets. Tie-breaker. I decide the best way out of the longest volley in the history of my tennis playing career is to "snap a blooper". My kids hate this shot. I get them nearly every time. So Marty Turpee hits a soft return and I snap a blooper. At the exact moment of the snap, I heard my wrist pop. Isaac Gilman looked at it and immediately told me I had a sprain. Did I listen? Never. Turn the pages to me four hours later at the doc's. My wrist was the size of a small melon. Severe sprain and I can't play for two weeks and I may never be able to snap a blooper again.

Happy Birthday, Mom!
Can you believe it? Mary is 80 years old today! Happy Birthday, Mom! Sally and I are hosting a grand party to celebrate the occasion. I should say Sally is hosting. Per usual, I will be bartending and practicing my gift of gab. The kids are flying and driving in -- as are my sister, Jen, and her new husband, Bart. Should I say new or latest? Ha! No worries. Jen knows she's the Zsa Zsa of the family. Cheers Jen! And cheers to Mom! We love you!

Today is September 8th and the kids are now officially out of the nest. Today is also the day I officially begin my "You're Aces" blog. Sally says I'm nuts and it won't last more than a month. She may be right. Although, as many of you know, I can be a gabby kinda guy. Who knows? Maybe this blog will garner a lot of attention and I'll soon be talking tennis and such on ESPN. Hope everyone enjoys my blog. Due to my need to believe that everyone loves me all the time, I've disabled the comments for my blog. I believe this is for the best. We must take care of my fragile ego. So, if anyone has something to share with me about my writing, please call.
